Getting Ready To Leave...

I anticipate the next day to be super busy, so I will write my "before the big trip" post today.

As many of you know I will be going to Poland and Ukraine with my family. It will be my first homecoming since I left at the age of 16.5...It's been 13 years, almost day to day...
It is hard to describe in words what this trip means to me. The first two years in the US I worked almost every day after school to make enough money for the ticket to go back. Then I found out I can not since my papers are not in order. I gained about 25 pounds and decided to become an Artist;) I guess that is a good thing, that it worked out like that.
I realize that the city changed a lot, since I left. The house where I grew up was sold and rebuilt, I am not sure if I will be able to go into the garden. But I want to smell the air there, I want to see the trees which I climbed as a child. I want to go to the cemetery, I want to look at that candy store that seemed so our of reach when we lived there. I wonder if it is possible to return to your childhood? This will be the closest I will get. I can not think of anything but this trip now, I dream walking down the old street to the bread shop and buying the fresh baked bread.
I wonder how what my impressions will be like after I get back. This will be a good reference point. The idyllic place I am seeing in my mind, and the "real" world out there. But I need this trip. I need to close that door. Sorry for today's rambling, but it is very hard to keep my mind at peace.
I will close my Etsy store for the length of the trip, starting tomorrow. Any orders placed before Wednesday will go out on time. Listing a few new things and making travel lists for the trip. A good way to spend an evening.

Dear Vita,
This dreamed-for a long time-trip will be exciting and hard at the same time. It's too personal, but I feel it in a way. I'm sure it will turn out to be a very special moment in your life. There'll be tears and laugh, thrills and sweet memories... Я очень волнуюсь вместе с тобой и желаю тебя приятного пути и замечательной встречи с прошлом, с детством! I'll wait eagerly for your coming back!

Ohh such a huge journey you are about to enter ....it's like a portal..to go back being how you are now ..looking at how it is now compared to the vision you hold in your mind ..and coming back to the present.

Many blessings on your opportunity for growth.

Oh CONGRATULATIONS!!! I hope that it is everything you have dreamed of! My great grandparents came from Poland, just weeks before the onslaught of WWI. I dream of Poland and hear her calling, even though I've never been. Enjoy!!!!!

I did the same thing last summer, and it has left a deep imprint on me, mostly by setting me free from the past entirely. I hope your trip is as important to you, but in a less uprooting way. Good luck, and don't eat anything with mayonnaise!
