Knitting a Mermaid Tail
A strange idea that I got today as I was painting another watercolor, of a rather plain looking princess...and looking for something to zest it up...A TAIL! she is knitting a mermaid tail for herself.
It must be boring to be princess all the time, and she does love water....So this will be her secret identity!

Dear Vita, it's not the first time that I'm thinking you must try to write down your ideas. Why don't you write fairy-tales and illustrate them? You have the perfect listeners at home - your children! I'd been always taking my son to rehearsals when he was little and asked for his opinion!... A very unexpected, nice and new idea. In connection with my work as a puppet-theatre director I've read a lot of childrens' books, but I've never met such a story before. If you are interested in "strange" princesses, try to find a book by the Czech author Krista Bendova - "The fairy-tales of Osmiyanko" (this is the Bulgarian translation .)Maybe you can find it in Russian.
hee hee hee thats brilliant...(and I love mermaids as you know!)
This is gorgeous and I see you've sold it already! I've always loved mermaids and used to pretend I had a fish's tail when I was a little girl. I eventually made one but knitting it is such a good idea ;)x
Oh this is charming and delightful!! She could end up knitting several beautiful tails :)
Rossichka--I will write them down some day. I do write in my sketchbooks , a lot..but they are not stories, more like short little sentences that add some flavor.
I will look for the author you have suggested, I am always on the lookout for new and interesting books! Thank you
Thank you all for the compliments, my little princess with the tail was very flattered. She is on her way to her new home in Chappaqua NY:)
She is darling! I love that she is knitting a tail!
I agree I'd love to see your stories :)
(I just painted a little knitting fairy must be this snuggly cold weather!)
Dear Vita, in fact Krista Bendova was a Slovak. I didn't know it up till now. When I read her tales, Czechoslovakia still existed. There're 8 sweet tales in the book, 8 tales about princesses, 8 tales about detectives, etc.
Vita! Another wonderful painting.. and a coincidence too.. my animation (finished but as yet unveiled ..hehe) has a story of a tail being stitched!!... you will see it in due course :):)
cute cute cute... and the hat photos... adorable adorable adorable
Ah I love this one! Your work always cheers my heart up, Vita. :-)
